Traditional Welsh Nursing Shawl

Cream with ample fringe all round . Historically  used to carry baby and to keep the wearer warm .

Soft fine ply wool , originally pressed under hot coals ( in the mill ) to flatten the pile and not be to itchy against the skin.

These shawls would often be used to nestle several babies in one family and then passed down to the next generation- it is therefore very rare to find one now in perfect condition. This example has several darns and a couple of faint marks but is generally in good order.
