Jen Jones in the shop doorway

Jen Jones Welsh Quilts and Blankets Cottage Shop, Llanybydder is proud to announce the Royal Warrant of Appointment as Supplier of Historic Welsh Quilts, Blankets and Antique and Vintage Textiles to His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales.

The Royal Warrant, which can be traced back to medieval times, has been granted to Jen Jones as a mark of recognition for supplying the Royal Household. The honour bestowed by HRH The Prince of Wales is due to the fact that, over a period of years, Jen has supplied TRH Prince Charles and Camilla Duchess of Cornwall with antique Welsh Quilts and Blankets.

Jen’s far-sightedness and diligence has led to her establishing a thriving business and one that many have tried to emulate. Her extensive knowledge, long-standing service, and reputation have been recognised by the Appointment of the Royal Warrant. From now on, her goods will proudly display the Royal Arms (Three Feather Badge) and anything purchased from Jen Jones’ Welsh Quilts and Blankets will definitely have had the Royal Seal of Approval!

jen jones shop in LlanybydderIt may be that the Jen Jones quilt business is the most famous in the world. Unrivalled in their knowledge of antique Welsh quilts and Welsh blankets, the shop has sold its products worldwide for many years.

The shop can be found in the small market town of Llanybydder, in West Wales and stocks antique quiilts, blankets, books and other unique items associated with the West Wales woollen industry.

When Jen Jones first arrived in Wales in 1971, she found a land where the Welsh woollen mills no longer produced vast quantities of their remarkable narrow loom blankets for the world's markets. Driven out of business by the soulless and ubiquitous duvet, those industrious craftswomen, the Welsh quilters, had also stopped making their practical and original quilts.

Imbued with her native New England respect for the heritage of quilt making, Jen Jones knew she couldn't re-start these industries but she could, and did, rekindle national and international appreciation of these artefacts.

Since her creation of the shop over thirty years ago, Jen has gone on to support and manage the foundation of the Welsh Quilt Centre in Lampeter, which offers visitors a unique opportunity to see some of the world's finest quilts, each year set into a different context. She also speaks passionately on the subject all over the world.

Jen Jones has built up a superb reputation for the quality of quilts, blankets and other products they supply.

Its success is largely down to the hard-work of everyone involved in the business, and to their unrivalled knowledge of quilts, textiles and the quilting industry in Wales.

This is reflected in the way that every item is checked, cleaned, stored and lovingly restored before it is made ready for sale.

The emphasis is on giving you, our customer, as much information as we can to make sure your purchase is informed and that you will be delighted by the products you purchase and by the service you receive.

We welcome individuals and groups to Pontbrendu to see all we have to offer.

Jen wants to make this colourful and artistic aspect of Welsh culture accessible to everybody. Antiques TV finds out the history of these highly collectable items. We have included a short video made by Jen for Antiques TV, which recounts the history and takes you on a tour of the shop here in Pontbrendu.
